The Last Day of 2021

 Wow! We made it.

Be sure to check out our mini year book. I call it mini because not all of R3 2021 were able to contribute. It is really great though, filled with happy memories for everyone to enjoy.

During our Live Prizegiving this week, I know that some of our awesome whanau wanted to attend but couldn't. Apologies for this and please see the video on our school website to find out our special award winners.

I think we have all been winners this year. It is time now to reflect on the year that has been. The good and the not so good and start planning how to move forward next year.

Take care over the long, silly season whanau. Take time to visit whanau and relax.

Can't wait to see you all refreshed next year.

Kia kaha everyone!

Nearly at the end...

 Kia Ora Whanau,

Wow have we been busy since opening our school. We have had roughly half of our middle students return to school and half choosing to learn from home. All learners are working from the awesome choice board learning slides created by our amazing middle team teachers. I must say- the slide just keep getting better and better. Learners are learning and enjoy sharing their discoveries with each other. Make sure you check out our student blogs and leave a comment when you can.
Looking forward to the last week of the 2021 school year. It has not been how anyone expected it to be, but it has been great!

Week 5 Term 4

 Kia Ora Whanau,

A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks...
I have have been able to meet some middle schoolers in person and see some amazing learning happening both at school and at home.
The most important things are that we are safe and that we are learning.
I am so proud of our Middle School Team! Our teachers, adults and children are working so hard to support each other. Kindness is everywhere.
Please remember that is is good try new things, mistakes are an important part of learning and you only fail when you don't try...
Look forward to seeing what the coming week has to offer.

Kia kaha, whanau!

Week 3 Term 4 Book Week Continued...

Kia Ora Room 3 Whanau,

This week we celebrated the end of Book Week by dressing up as a book character for our Middle Team Assembly. It was so great to see everyone who made an effort to use what they had avaialable in their bubbles. I keep getting blown away what our Middle Team children can do!

Diwali was also celebrated this week. Room 3 enjoyed viewing videos of making sweets, seeing photos of families dressed up and seeing beautiful rangoli being made.

Please keep viewing and commenting on our student blogs, as this helps us to maintain motivation because we know that we have an audience that our posts are reaching.

Keep up the great work Room 3. I can't wait to see what you come up with next...

Kia kaha,

Week 2 Term 4

Our innovation theme was in full swing this week.

Room 3 students particulary enjoyed the golden egg challenge this week. We kept coming up with creative ideas to get the egg down from the beanstalk. Some ideas included creating a soft landing place, rolling down from a height and wrapping up the egg before dropping it! Check out more on our student blogs.

We are great at sharing our leanring and expertise with others. Our 2nd daily Meet is where we inspire others by sharing our leanring tasks. We also give and recieve feedback to each other and help each other out with technical or presentation difficulties.

Creating Kahoots! has been another love of ours this week. We are leanring so much about making Kahoots! by giving it a go and playing each others quizzes and giving feedback. Practise will eventually make perfect!

So glad we are a helpful, creative and inspiring class! I really look forward to seeing what you and your whanau have been up to each day.

Keep up the great work Room 3 Whanau!

We have been meeting twice a day, completing our learning and sharing learning tasks. Our learning is shared with our friends and teachers, during our Google Meet sessions and on our blogs.

Go to our Room 3 Student Blogs to have a go at some of our pick-a-path stories or read a chain story. Don't forget to leave a comment about our learning or a suggestion for what you would like to see as learn about next.

SUPER Writing

This week we have been writing with a 'SUPER' theme. Here are three examples of our work. We hope you enjoy reading these and then head over to our personal blogs to read some more!

If I had a superpower it would be to have speed so I can save people. And help them cross the road. And help the kids If they fell on the playground. Sometimes in the morning the poor people need food so I would use my speed power to go to the shops and then get the poor people some food.

My super power will be the superpower of absorbing someone's super power. I can absorb more than one power at the same time but that can drain my energy faster.

The only two powers I can’t absorb are breathing underwater and mind controlling but the rest I can absorb. I will use my powers for good and save people from danger.

A superhero is a good person who tries to stop the bad guys and helps people and sometimes hides in a secret lair or their identity is secret or they might be the opposite of that

A villain is a bad person trying to be bad and they might try to be...

Destructive, deadly, and even might be killing and some might try to take over the world.

They are the same because they are both rare to find and they both might hide in a secret lair.

They are different because the superheroes are good.are evil.

Learning in Lockdown

 Kia Ora Whanau,

Room 3 have been doing some amazing learning during our current lockdown. Although we would all much rather be learning at school, we are making the most of our time by learning at home.

I, personally, am taking time to learn names and identify learning strengths. It has been great to receive emails from whanau, welcoming me to Papakura Central School, these emails have made me feel extremely welcome as I begin this next chapter.

Our bubble buddies have been a rich resource of information. Thanks to all the adults and siblings in our bubbles who keep us going and offer us support from baking to building; practising maths facts to reading stories- this support is helping Room 3 learners continue to learn while at home.

Kia kaha, whanau!

Tivaevae

We made Tivaevae patterns.  Tivaevae are beautiful bedspreads from the Cook Islands. We read about what Tivaevae is and what it means.  'Tivai' means to sew or patch.  On many islands, it is spelt as tivaivai.  Here are our Tivaevae patterns we made out of paper.

Glorious Geo Poems

We have been learning about Geo Poetry. Geo poetry follows a set structure to create a poem about a certain place. This was a bit tricky at first but we continued to persevere and have come up with some amazing poems.

Have a look at some of our stunning Geo Poems below:

Middle school playground

Excitement, happiness, bright and sunny

Home of slides, rock climbing and monkey bars

Lover of people and peace

Feels wind and sun's brightness

Needs more people on the playground

Gives joy and happiness

Fears broken parts and sadness

That would like to see more people

Our Day 3 Antics

Have a look at all of the amazing work that Room 3 class members created today!

Well Done everyone, I love looking at all of your amazing work, reading your creative stories and learning more about what you are getting up to at home.

Hartaj's Story about his dragon Friend:

I have a little dragon whose name is  Light Ball .
Light Ball loves to eat chicken ball
Light Ball and me love to play fetch
We love to sit on the couch and watch tv
We love to drink hot chocolate
When it rains we love to play in the rain.

Miller's Mystery Egg Writing

The Weird Egg

One day my doorbell rang and it was a package for me. In the package it was another package and in that package there was a package shaped like an egg. So I opened the package and in the package there was an egg. Then the egg hatched and it was a dragon. The dragon had black scales, a golden horn and the inside of the dragon's wings were red.The middle of him and under his tail is golden. And he has a red fin down his back. Now I have a dragon I don't know  what to do with him. Then he spat out a portal and it was right under me. ‘What ! it’s under me aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Where are we?”suddenly the dragon started to talk. Then I fainted for one hour. When I woke up now I was in Fiji so I caught a flight  back to New Zealand. When I got back, “listen up dragon your name is Grindal” I said. “I will give you treats if you do not spit portals''. So we went outside and there they were, his family. He went home with them and lived happily ever after. THE END

Cooper's Mystery Egg Writing:

One day when I woke up I had a package. I went to open it and in it, there was an egg. It had yellow and green dots on it. It was bumpy and small. I took it to my bedroom and looked at it but it started to hatch! Then it popped out of the egg and it was a dragon! It had green scales with yellow bumpy spots. So I ran with all my energy to my mum and dad. But before I could get there it ran out of my hands and started making some problems. It was running around breaking things and messing things up. Then it started going to the fridge. It wanted to open the fridge and so I opened it and it wanted sausages. So I made it follow me to a cage and put some sausages in the cage and every day I fed it. As long as I fed it it stayed well behaved and it became our family pet. THE END.

Our Amazing Animal Mixes

This was a very popular task today! Lots of our class took part in creating an animal mix from 2 separate animals. You could mix the two animals using different parts from each animal to come up with a completely new creature.  Check out some of our creations below - keep checking in as Mrs Zandbergen will add more as they come in!

If you could combine two animals to create a new creature what would they be? Could you come up with a new name for this creature?

Spectacular Lock Down Learning

Check out some of the amazing work that our classmates have been completing from home on Day One of this week!

Here is Sol's Alien story:

An alien came down to earth and said he wanted to spend the day with me. What did I do with him?

One day to my surprise there was a little green alien that said, “I have come from Mercury to here because I am on a special vacation.“ So I went and gave him some delicious food but he said he didn’t want it. Instead he ate slimy earthworms from the garden.

Later he said he could make me invisible so I went to a lolly shop and sneakily brought out some lollies and I shared them with the alien. But the sneaky shopkeeper told the angry policeman and the policeman followed the lollies home so he found my address. The alien knew that there was only one way. And he transported the policeman to space and the angry policeman suffocated and he died. And that became history so the alien went back to space. From then on nobody knew how the policeman disappeared except for me.

The next day there was a knock on the door and I thought to myself, “Should I answer it or not…..?”

Great story Sol! I really like how you have ended your story with a cliffhanger..... we may need a sequel to see what happened if you did open the door!

Here is Kowhai's Robot to do her Homework for her. I think that this would be a very popular robot if it was available to buy..

Keep up the great work Room 3! I can't wait to see what you get up to tomorrow!

 Wow Room 3!

I have loved watching all of your Flipgrid videos about what you have been reading. Keep an eye out on them for your video reply...

Have a watch of Couper's videos below - he has done some fantastic reading at home today!

Did you read I Spy or Greedy Cat too? What did you think about the books that were online today?

There have been lots of people hard at work solving some of our maths problems also.
Have a look at Kowhai and Ruby's solutions below:

Have you come up with a different solution for any of these problems yet? Have a go and let us know what your solution is..

Agampreet has been hard at work designing his bedroom - have a look at his plan.

What would you choose to have in your dream bedroom? I think that I would love to include a Reading Nook with a comfortable chair to snuggle up and read a good book in!
